Background

Al Rashid Education Foundation (AREF) is an Edmonton-based organization, supporting Muslim undergraduate and post-graduate students through scholarships. Each year, students are awarded for their academic and leadership achievement at a gala, hosted by the foundation. I have been volunteering on the AREF Board of Trustees for over a year, and greatly enjoy supporting the organization’s initiatives.

I have also been given the wonderful opportunity to participate in the design of the organization’s marketing material, which has included creating the visual theme for the AREF 2019 Awards Gala.

There were several pieces of design collateral needed for the awards gala, including: a presentation, a program guide, and name tags for scholarship recipients.

The organization operates under the Al Rashid Foundation, built around the legacy of Canada’s first mosque. AREF’s logo is a collection of hexagons, forming a beehive, and its motto is “Success is Sweet”. Based on this, I designed a theme that reflects Islamic art elements, which also combines the bee and honey brand. Below, you can see the final designs.
